BC Cancer Research strives to improve the lives of patients through the integration of basic biomedical research, genomics, clinical trials, health services research, cancer surveillance, population health, and the development of innovative new technology, programs, and interventions. Organized through departments and programs with various themes, BC Cancer supports groundbreaking cancer research and personalized care approaches through world-class facilities and platforms including genomics, bioinformatics, imaging, drug development and tissue banking.

Exploring inequities in access to life-saving genetic testing for patients with advanced ovarian cancer

A pan-Canadian research team led by Dr. Helen McTaggart-Cowan, a BC Cancer scientist, will receive $183,500 through a new Patient Voices in Research Initiative from the Terry Fox Research Institute’s Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network (the Network) to examine barriers to accessing homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) testing for patients with advanced ovarian cancer.

Dr. Nadine Caron inducted into Canadian Medical Hall of Fame

Dr. Nadine Caron has been inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame in recognition of her transformative leadership in Indigenous health and surgical practice.

Dr. Caron is a senior scientist with BC Cancer’s Genome Sciences Centre, co-director of the UBC Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Health and a professor in UBC’s department of surgery and Northern Medical Program, which is delivered in partnership with the University of Northern British Columbia.
