We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Rachel Murphy as a scientist within the Cancer Control Research Department of BC Cancer - Research effective October 12. This is a joint appointment with the University of British Columbia where she will hold an assistant professor position in the Centre of Excellence in Cancer Prevention, School of Population and Public Health. Rachel is also an associate member in the Human Nutrition Program at the Faculty of Land and Food Systems.
She obtained her PhD in Nutrition and Metabolism from the University of Alberta and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in epidemiology at the NIH. Her research program aims to advance the understanding of relationships between nutrition, energy balance and cancer. Her research uses population-based approaches and innovative methodologies to study metabolic pathways underlying relationships. She received one of two awards from the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute Career Development Awards in 2016, which supports researchers whose work has the potential for high impact and was awarded the Canadian Nutrition Society/CIHR-INMD New Investigator award in 2018.
