The UBC-BC Cancer Academic Enhancement Fund Competition 2025 supports research projects that either:   

  • foster collaboration across multiple BC Cancer sites with a focus on cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment or survivorship; or
  • address disparities in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and outcomes among historically underserved and underrepresented populations in British Columbia.

The 2025 recipients and their projects are: 

  • Dr. Irene YuImproving cancer care delivery for hepatocellular cancer patients in Fraser Health ($90,000)
  • Dr. Maria HoMedical oncologist retention and recruitment outside urban British Columbia ($28,000)
  • Dr. Guliz OzgunBuilding a provincial urine biobank to refine delivery of neoadjuvant therapy for muscle-invasive bladder cancer and inform treatment strategies ($90,000)

This year’s competition is supported by UBC’s Department of Medicine, the BC Ministry of Health and the BC Cancer Foundation. The competition was open to BC Cancer medical oncologists with UBC Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate appointments.
