BC Cancer Clinician Researcher Start Up Competition 2024 recipients – Round 2

Alan Nichol (BC Cancer – Vancouver): Predicting upgrades from non-invasive core biopsy specimens to invasive ductal carcinoma in surgical specimens using histology-based DNA organization analysis

Alison Weppler (BC Cancer – Vancouver): The utility of ctDNA to detect and monitor minimal residual disease in resected stage IIB-IV melanoma

Bernhard (Bernie) Eigl (BC Cancer – Vancouver): Evaluation of early ctDNA reduction as a surrogate marker of response in urothelial cancer

Deepesh Lad (BC Cancer – Vancouver): Impact of Inner Engineering Yoga (No Mind-Body) program on Distress in Recipients undergoing Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation (IMNoT)

Diego Villa (BC Cancer – Vancouver): Characterization of the Intestinal Microbiome in Patients with Mantle Cell Lymphoma

Juanita Crook (BC Cancer – Kelowna): Multi-omic Approach to Study High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy as Monotherapy for Favorable and Intermediate Risk Prostate Cancer (Brachy Tracks)

Zu-Hua Gao (BC Cancer – Vancouver): Hydrogel-based adhesive artificial mucosa (HAAM): a paradigm-shifting platform for postsurgical wound repair and local precision therapy of esophageal cancer

Applications were awarded across the following disciplines:

  • medical oncology
  • pathology
  • radiation oncology

The Office of Research Administration received 16 applications and granted 7 recipients. 

Funding for this competition was made available through the BC Ministry of Health and in collaboration with the BC Cancer Foundation.

The competition will help facilitate stand-alone research projects for clinician researchers at BC Cancer that will support future grant or investigator-initiated studies to be funded by other organizations.
