Dr. Ryan Morin (Centre for Lymphoid Cancer) is the co-recipient of the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) Bernard and Francine Dorval Prize.
Dr. Morin is a national and international leader in his field of studying how changes to our genes lead to cancer. He has conducted cutting-edge research that has directly helped doctors understand, diagnose and better treat lymphomas.
Dr. Morin studies how a type of white blood cancer cell works by analyzing a lot of genetic information gathered from reading DNA. He was one of the first to use advanced gene-reading technology to measure how active tiny genetic molecules are in cells and to identify spelling errors (mutations) in these molecules in cells. He played a key role in some of the earliest efforts to search for mutations in all the genes in cancer cells.
The Bernard and Francine Dorval Prize is given to an early career investigator whose outstanding contributions to basic biomedical research have the potential to lead or have already led to improved understanding of cancer treatments and/or cures. It is named in honour of Bernard and Francine Dorval, whose longstanding support of CCS has helped to raise more than two million dollars in support of CCS-funded research, policy work and programs.
Congratulations to Dr. Morin for this achievement!
