Dr. Stephen Chia appointed Head of Department of Clinical Research

Dr. Stephen Chia was recently announced as the new head of clinical research at the BC Cancer Research Institute. In addition to this role, he retains his position as a medical oncologist at BC Cancer - Vancouver, a Professor of medicine within the Department of Medicine at UBC and the Division head for Medical Oncology, Department of Medicine, UBC.


An active clinician-researcher, Dr. Chia is the current chair of the BC Cancer Breast Tumour Group and Chair of the BC Cancer Tumour Group Council. He is also the co-chair of the Breast Disease Site for the CCTG.

On November 8, 2021, the Canadian Cancer Research Alliance (CCRA) announced that Dr. Connie Eaves, PhD, FRSC, FRSE, FRSL, Terry Fox Laboratory, BC Cancer and Department of Medical Genetics and School of Biomedical Engineering, University of British Columbia is the recipient of the CCRA Award for Outstanding Achievements in Cancer Research.

BC Cancer Practice-based Research Challenge announces funding for five teams

​The Practice-based Research Challenge is an annual program that provides training, mentorship, and funding to help clinicians develop and conduct research projects inspired by their practice and the desire to improve patient care. Five teams have been awarded funding to conduct small-scale research projects in their own clinical settings.​ One of the teams is led by Hilary Cochrane, a speech language pathologist from BC Cancer - Victoria:
