First made-in-Canada CAR-T cell therapy for cancer shows promise in clinical trial

More than a dozen people with cancer who had exhausted all treatment options are alive and cancer-free today thanks to a pioneering Canadian clinical trial of a highly personalized kind of immunotherapy. The results, presented at the 2022 Cell Therapy Transplant Canada Conference, could open the door to a new era of made-in-Canada immunotherapies for cancer.

The Canadian Society for Immunology (CSI) has awarded Dr. Brad Nelson, distinguished scientist and co-director of BC Cancer’s Immunotherapy Program, with the prestigious 2022 Hardy Cinader Award. This award is the highest honour by the CSI, given to a Canadian scientist who exemplifies distinguished scientific leadership and accomplishments in immunology.

Dean Regier appointed Chair for the new Regulatory Advisory Council at Academy of Translational Medicine

Dr. Regier will provide leadership to establish the Regulatory Advisory Council and the Academy of Translational Medicine as leaders in regulatory affairs in Canada, and guide the evolving regulatory and health policy landscapes to advance the translation of scientific discoveries into solutions that improve patient care, therapeutics and research knowledge.
