Dr. Carol Chen is dedicated to understanding the complexities and finding innovative solutions to high-grade gliomas (HGGs); a particularly aggressive form of brain cancer affecting children and young adults. The new BC Cancer scientist, who joined the Terry Fox Laboratory in 2023, is focused on understanding how mutations in certain proteins, called histones or histone-modifying enzymes, contribute to the development of HGGs.

ARCC is pleased to announce that its 12th annual conference, ARCC2023, will take place virtually on September 14-15, 2023. The objective of this conference is to bridge a connection between researchers and decision-makers, using health economics, services, policy and ethics research to improve cancer control and the delivery of cancer care.

Congratulations to Dr. Renelle Myers (Myers Lab) and team for being awarded a CCS Team Breakthrough Grant: Transforming Low-Survival Cancers for the project titled "Improving Detection of Early Lung Cancer in a Diverse Population (IDEAL) study". Dr. Myers was awarded $5.4 million over 5 years.

Researchers at the BC Cancer Research Institute have made an advancement in genetic testing that allows for more accurate prediction of which parent’s genes led to an individual’s increased cancer risk. This improves the efficiency of familial testing strategies and could eliminate concern for patients at high risk of cancer caused by genes inherited from a parent.

Dr. Arefeh Rouhi is a doctor and scientist, research at the Terry Fox Laboratories, BC Cancer Research Institute. She is the winner of this year’s BC Cancer Excellence Award in the category of Workplace Inspiration.

The Doctors of BC Terry Fox Medal is awarded to outstanding individuals who have a track record of making a difference in cancer care. It is our pleasure to share that Dr. Dixie L. Mager, distinguished scientist emeritus at the Terry Fox Laboratory, BC Cancer Research Institute, is the recipient of this year’s prestigious award.
