Laurie Smith, winner of a PHSA+ Award, is the program manager of the Global Control of HPV Related Diseases program at the Women's Health Research Institute, and has worked tirelessly to control and eliminate cervical cancer in B.C.

Building on a BC Cancer discovery from decades past, a new combination treatment has shown promise to overcome drug resistance and relapse in people with chronic myeloid leukemia. 

Building off the discovery of an enzyme called integrin-linked kinase (ILK) made by BC Cancer distinguished scientist Dr. Shoukat Dedhar 24 years ago, BC Cancer’s Drs. Xiaoyan Jiang and Shoukat Dedhar have made a significant advancement in understanding the role of this enzyme in blood cancers. 

BC Cancer Research has become a formal UBC-approved and Provincial Health Authority Services Authority-approved (PHSA) research institute — a move set to enhance British Columbia’s leadership position in cancer research innovation.

Internationally recognized pediatric cancer researcher Dr. Poul Sorensen has been named the eleventh recipient of MSFHR’s Aubrey J. Tingle Prize.

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research will provide funding to support their world-leading cancer research for years to come.
